Those who remember God standing, sitting, and lying down, who reflect on the creation of the heavens and earth: ‘Our Lord! You have not created all this without purpose—Glory be to You!—so protect us from the torment of the Fire.
Qur’an 3:191
SAMA stands for the Society of Amateur Muslim Astronomers. It is an astronomy club for Muslims to connect and explore the intersection of Islam and astronomy. We conduct workshops, seminars, school events, mosque events, night sky observations with telescopes, and publish articles and newsletters.
We are based in Toronto, Ontario, but our mission is to serve a global audience. We are actively looking for contributors from around the world.
The Quran calls us to observe the night sky and the Ayaat of Allah (swt). Historically, Muslims were pioneers in astronomical discoveries and deeply connected with the night sky. SAMA seeks to revive this legacy—encouraging a connection with nature to remember Allah, contributing to the field of astronomy, and advancing the sciences.
Yes! At SAMA, we love hosting observational sessions for our Muslim community. Some of our members are already organizing classes, stargazing events, and more through local groups. Stay connected with us and check our upcoming events to find out when our next observational night is scheduled.
Simply fill out the “Contact Us” form on our website and provide as much detail as possible about your request.
Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about our events, programs, articles, and initiatives. You can also reach out through our contact page to explore how you can contribute to our mission.
